Large Delegation of Egyptian Elites, Thinkers Arrive in Tehran

TEHRAN (FNA)- A large delegation comprising tens of Egyptian revolutionary youths, thinkers, intellectuals and religious scholars arrived in Tehran last night.
The 45-strong delegation is in Tehran to attend a daylong conference on Islamic awakening on Tuesday.

Several members of the group, including an al-Azhar University scholar, are due to address the 'International Conference on Islamic Awakening'.

Meetings with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Saeed Jalili and head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) are also on their agenda.

The Egyptian delegation will leave Tehran on Friday.

The international conference on Islamic Awakening kicked off work here in Tehran on Tuesday, with tens of political and cultural figures and elites from Iran and other regional countries in attendance.

Senior political and cultural figures from Egypt, Yemen and Iraq as well as envoys from a number of regional Arab states, including Syria and Palestine, are present at the gathering.

Recent developments in the region, change in the Middle-East's geopolitics, Islamic awakening, nature and features of the current developments in the region are among the main topics of the daylong meeting.

After the collapse of Hosni Mubarak's regime, the Iranian and Egyptian officials voiced their interest in the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries and Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi officially invited his Egyptian counterpart Nabil al-Arabi to pay a visit to Tehran.

The Iranian foreign minister and his Egyptian counterpart also held a meeting in Bali, Indonesia last week.
