EDUCATION SECTOR NEEDS ACCOMMODATIVE,RESPONSIVE PARTNERS - DPM
KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (Bernama) -- The willingness on the part of the public and private sectors to be accommodative and responsive to changes and innovations in the education sector is the key to continued cooperation between them, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin Tuesday.
He said the public sector should have the courage to seek and accept new ideas in education, including latest international practices.
The private sector, he said, should understand national education
philosophies and aspirations in undertaking public-private education
initiatives.
"The public-private sector collaboration in the field of education is in line with the government's intention to enhance the involvement of the private sector, non-governmental organisations and society in efforts to produce quality human capital by means of quality education," he said.
Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, said this when closing the
"Public-Private Partnership in the School System" conference here.
Muhyiddin said the private sector had the expertise and funds to assist the government in efforts to transform schools in the country towards improving the quality of education in the country.
He said, in turn, they would have a pool of skilled workforce to tap into in the future.
Muhyiddin, however, said the involvement of the private sector in
public-private partnership in education should not be purely driven by a desire to make profit.
"It's a long-term investment," he said.
The deputy prime minister further said that attempts must be made to craft an education model that would lead to the creation of social enterprises in the country.
About 100 participants attended the conference which was organised by the Razak School of Government and the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas).
