MAID AGENCIES TOLD TO STICK TO AGREED FEES, CONDITIONS

PUTRAJAYA, June 1 (Bernama) -- All agencies supplying Indonesian maids to Malaysia have been told to stick to the fees and conditions agreed upon by the Malaysian and Indonesian governments.

"The initial fees employers have to pay to get an Indonesian maid should no longer hover between RM6,000 (US$1,992) and RM8,000 (US$2,656), like what's happening now," Human Resources Minister Dr S.Subramaniam told reporters on arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here Tuesday.

The two countries on Monday inked protocol amendments to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the employment of Indonesian maids inked between Malaysia and Indonesia in 2006.

The revised MoU, among others, sets the initial fees employers have to pay at RM4,511 (US$1,498).

"The Indonesian side has pledged their commitment on this matter, and we should do that too," he said.

In addition, Dr Subramaniam said a joint task force would be set up
to deal with issues raised by employers and their employees.

"The task force, among others, will look at salary issues based on demand and supply principles. We'll know the outcome in two weeks," he added.
