KFAS encourages scientific research relevant to Kuwait, Gulf
By Ahmed Al-Mezyed PARIS, June 2 (KUNA) -- Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS), Dr. Adnan Shehab Eldien said here on Thursday that the foundation continues to encourage scientific research in various fields of specific value to Kuwait and the Gulf region.
Dr. Adnan's statements to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) followed his meeting with the French Minister of Higher Education and Research Valerie Pecresses.
He said that his current visit to France is aimed at following up the agreement signed by KFAS with the French "University of Sciences Po" for nearly four years in order to stimulate scientific research and teaching in various issues related to Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf, in addition to encourage Masters and PhD degrees in the se issues.
He added that this comes within the framework of agreements signed by the Foundation with prestigious universities around the world, noting that KFAS has similar agreements with the Harvard University and MIT center for national resources and environment in science and technology in the US.
Dr. Adnan further explained that the agreement named "Kuwait program with French Science Po University" includes funding a professor at the University concerned with issues of scientific research and teaching, it also includes training and exchange of professors and students to add support for the undergraduate program on the Middle East at the Science Po University.
He added that his meeting with the French Minister dealt with proposals and future visions concerning the program, with the attendance of members of the Advisory Committee for the program, including the Director General of Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (DAI), Sheikha Hussah Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and Dr. Has san Al-Ibrahim and Ali Al-Baghli in addition to Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Medaj, whom are also members of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science.
On the other hand, Dr. Adnan stated that the french minister who leads a campaign to reform and develop higher education in France assured during the meeting that she aims to encourage scientific research for the purposes of the private sector needs.
