Demand for electricity rises in Turkey
ANKARA (A.A) - 03.06.2011 - Turkey's electricity demand is expected to reach 219.5 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh) this year and 293.1 billion kWh in 2015.
Turkey will be able to meet the electricity demand in 2015 together with the new generation facilities, which are currently under construction and planned to take effect till 2015. Turkey will be able to meet the need without making imports.
Under Turkey's Electric Transmission Sector Report, installed capacity in Turkey amounted to 49,524,1 MW by the end of 2010.
32, 278,5 megawatt (MW) of this installed capacity is thermic, 94,2 MW geothermal, 15, 831,2 MW hydraulic and 1320,2 MW is wind.
Turkey generated 211,2 billion kWh last year, imported 1.1 billion Kwh and exported 1,9 billion kWh of the available total electricity energy.
Electricity energy demand is expected to rise 5 percent over last year and reach 219,5 billion kWh.
Current systems is able to generate 266,9 billion kWh in 2011. 204,7 billion kWh from thermic power plants, 62,2 billion kWh from hydraulic and wind power plants.
Plans are underway to develop generation and transmission of electricity energy to meet electricity energy need in Turkey.
Demand estimation studies are carried out by taking into consideration population, industry and economic developments as essential parameters.
The demand is expected to increase approximately 7.5 percent in the next decade.
