Anti-Discrimination Committee to honor American-Turkish citizen killed in attack with award
KAYSERI (A.A) - 03.06.2011 - The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) will honor an American citizen of Turkish descent who was killed in last year's Israeli attack on an aid flotilla with an award.
The committee decided to grant this year's "Rachel Corrie Memorial Award" to parents of Furkan Dogan, who lost his life during the Israeli attack on Mavi Marmara aid ship carrying assistance to Gaza.
"ADC said it would give the award to my wife and me on June 12," Furkan Dogan's father Ahmet Dogan told AA correspondent on Friday.
Each year, ADC honors Rachel Corrie, the American peace activist who was tragically crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer. ADC presents this award in recognition of Corrie's dedication and commitment for a just and lasting peace in Palestine, and for her working tirelessly to address Palestinian self-determination and humanitarian needs.
Furkan Dogan was one of the nine people who were killed in the Israeli army's attack on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla on May 31, 2010.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is a civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting their rich cultural heritage. ADC, which is non-profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan, is the largest Arab-American grassroots civil rights organization in the United States.
