Consumer and producer prices up in May in Turkey
ANKARA (A.A) - 03.06.2011 - Consumer prices index (TUFE) increased 2.42 percent in May, 2011.
Also, producer prices index (UFE) rose 0.15 percent in May, 2011, stated TukStat on Friday.
According to 2003-based annual figures, annual inflation as of May was posted as 7.17 percent in TUFE, and 9.63 percent in UFE.
In the first five months of 2011, TUFE rose 4.93 percent and UFE increased 6.2 percent.
On 12-month averages, annual inflation in TUFE was posted as 6.64 percent and in UFE as 9.21 percent.
A rise in general index was realized in the 2003-based TUFE on the previous month by 2.42 percent, on December of 2010 by 4.93 percent, on same month of 2010 by 7.17 percent and on the twelve-months moving averages basis by 6.64 percent in May 2011.
The highest monthly increase was 11.68 percent in the index for clothing and footwear by main expenditure groups. The indices rose for food and non-alcoholic beverages 4.71 percent, for miscellaneous goods and services 1.47 percent, for education 1.14 percent, for recreation and culture 0.99 percent, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 0.81 percent, for transportation 0.63 percent, for housing 0.54 percent, for furnishings and household equipment 0.26 percent, for health 0.11 percent, while the index declined for alcoholic beverages and tobacco 0.01 percent, for communication 0.47 percent.
The highest increase was 12.61 percent in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages compared with the same month of 2010. Transportation (8.69 percent), for miscellaneous goods and services(7.68 percent), for furnishings and household equipment (7.40 percent), for hotels cafes and restaurants (7.20 percent) were the other indices where high increases were realized.

Monthly changes were -1.93 percent in the index of agriculture and 0.61 percent in the index of industry.
UFE of agriculture increased 7.37 percent compared with December of 2010, 8.73 percent compared with the same month of 2010 and 14.93 percent on the averages of twelve-months basis. UFE of industry section increased 5.95 percent compared with December of 2010, 9.84 percent compared with the same month of 2010 and 7.97 percent on the averages of twelve-months basis.
The highest monthly increase in the UFE of industrial activities was recorded 4.44 percent in the index for basic metal industry.
UFE increased 1.16 percent in the index for manufacturing industry, 0.84 percent in the index for mining and stone quarrying, and decreased 4.47 percent in the index for electricity, gas and water by sub-sections of industry.
