.
NIZHNY NOVGOROD, June 5 (Itar-Tass) - There are no open combustion
seats near the Pugachyovo village in Udmurtiya, the press service of the
Volga regional centre of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations
reports.
The ministry's representatives noted that the intensity of explosions
between 15:00 and 17:00 Moscow time was two or three blasts an hour. Two
fireplaces remain; two seats of fire have been extinguished. Water and
electricity have been supplied to all the populated areas located in the
vicinity of Pugachyovo. Gas supplies will be restored later after an
inspection by emergency operations services.
A total of 1,594 people and 232 equipment pieces have been mobilized
to liquidate the emergency situation.
Engineer reconnaissance has inspected 24 hectares of territory and
found 520 explosive objects that will now be taken away. A total of 731
explosive objects have been discovered. They are being stored in the
Arsenal's technical territory.
Three obstacle-clearing vehicles that are watering the simmering seats
together with other equipment have covered 800 meters in one sector and
650 in another; 650 meters of a 1.5 kilometre-long road have been cleared.
Fire engine trains ensure incessant water supply.
Law enforcers in Udmurtiya tighten security measures at nighttime in
populated localities located near the epicentre of explosions at the
arsenal and the territory of the military unit in Pugachyovo.
"We use 430 policemen in 11 populated localities in daytime; at night
time their number will increase several times," Alexander Pervukhin, the
Interior Ministry head for Udmurtiya, told Itar-Tass.
Interior Ministry employees from Izhevsk will set up additional patrol
posts to prevent incidents of looting and attempts to smuggle alcohol into
the region where all consumption of alcohol has been forbidden until
further notice.
Pervukhin recommended the region's population to take their ID papers
with them whenever they leave home. He also urged people not to collect
shell fragments that had scattered at a range of several kilometres to
avoid accidents.
A source at the information department of the Russian Ministry for
Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass that all local residents, except for
more than 400 children, evacuated because of explosions at the arsenal in
Udmurtiya have returned to their homes, including the Pugachyovo village.
The Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations expects the fire to be
completely extinguished on Sunday.
