GOVT ADDRESSING PROBLEMS OF CITY DWELLERS

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the "human touch" is needed to ensure that all city dwellers feel that they are part of the action in the fast-paced development of Kuala Lumpur.

"It'll be unfortunate if we continue to see people struggling with their lives after spending billions of ringgit to build skyscrapers and other infrastructure.

"That's not what we want," he said at a gathering with Lembah Pantai residents here Sunday.

He explained that this human touch approach would not cost much, because all that was needed was for the authorities to give attention to matters pertaining to children, family life and basic human needs, among others.

The deputy prime minister said the government was committed to addressing the needs and problems of KL residents.

Muhyiddin, who went on a walkabout in several areas in the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur Sunday, said he was happy to be able to reach out to city dwellers and get to know their problems first hand.

The deputy prime minister noted that the people must choose a government that was able to safeguard their interests.

Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, also announced that a primary and a secondary schools would be built in Lembah Pantai.

The public-private sector project would be constructed on a 8.24ha site.
