Speaker Underlines Iran's Influential Role in Region
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underscored that Iran plays an influential role in the region despite all the plots hatched by the enemies to undermine the Islamic Republic.
"Iran has turned into an independent, influential and inspiring country in the region, and the enmity of our enemies is not because of issues such as (Tehran's) nuclear program," Larijani said, addressing a group of people in Iran's Northern city of Babol on Sunday.
Larijani described Iran's regional influence as the root cause of the hostility of Iran's enemies.
"The enemies of our country always tried to achieve their objectives such as separatism through plots and causing sedition," Larijani state, adding, "But they realized that they could not counter this revolution thorough coups d'état or similar measures."
Elsewhere, the Iranian parliament speaker pointed to recent war rhetoric against Iran, and stated that the Islamic Republic will counter any act of aggression against the country with its missiles.
Iran has warned that in case of an attack by either the US or Israel, it will target 32 American bases in the Middle East and close the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz, the entrance to the strategic Persian Gulf waterway, is a major oil shipping route. A major part of world's energy supply passes through the waterway.
