Senior Legislator Stresses Anti-US Nature of Yemen's Revolution
TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian top legislator underlined the anti-imperialism and anti-US nature of people's revolution in Yemen, and said the escape of the Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, defused a US plot to wear down the country's revolution.
Speaking to FNA, member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Parviz Sorouri said that the US has adopted different tactics to harness popular uprisings sweeping the Middle-East and North Africa, but almost to no avail.
For instance, he said, Washington is seeking to spark a civil war in Libya in a bid to entrap the Libyan revolutionary forces in an internal conflict.
As regards the US plots for Yemen, Sorouri stated that Washington seeks an attrition of the revolution in the Arab country, and noted, "Attrition of Yemen's revolution would give the chance to the Americans to implement their plots as planned, but Abdullah Saleh's injury and escape defused the US plot."
"The anti-US approach of the Yemeni revolution is a crucial and undoubted issue, that's why the US is facing a big problem in Yemen which is the Yemeni public opinion's hatred for the Americans," he noted.
Protesters in Yemen are celebrating the fall of the Yemeni dictatorial regime after President Ali Abdullah Saleh escaped to Saudi Arabia.
Saleh, who was wounded in an attack on his compound, flew on Saturday to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment and Vice President Abduraboo Mansur Hadi has taken over Saleh's duties.
The Saudi royal court said on Sunday that Saleh arrived in Saudi Arabia along with other top Yemeni officials to be treated for wounds they suffered in Friday's rocket attack on the presidential palace.
Hundreds of thousands of people have turned out for near daily demonstrations in Yemen's major cities since late January, calling for an end to corruption and unemployment and demanding the ouster of Saleh, who has been in office since 1978.
