INDONESIAN EMBASSY URGES FAST PROBE INTO MAID'S DEATH
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - The Indonesian embassy has urged police to
conduct prompt investigation into the death of an Indonesian maid, believed to
have been abused by her employer.
Its information chief Suryana Sastradieja said the embassy has yet to
receive a police report on the maid's exact cause of death.
"We can't issue any statement until we receive report whether the maid died
from abuse or not," he told reporters after launching Local Simcard-Garuda at
Menara KL here Tuesday.
The 26 year-old maid was pronounced dead on arrival at Universiti Malaya
Medical Centre (UMMC) at 7.50am on Sunday.
She was brought to UMMC by her employers, a couple in their 50s, from Taman
Sea Park in Petaling Jaya.
The couple had been remanded until June 11 to assist investigation into the
maid's death.
Suryana urged police to conduct a fair investigation and seek adequate
punishment on the perpetrators if criminal elements were involved.
He said the case should be investigated fast to prevent it from being
manipulated by the media in Indonesia.
