Russia-NATO Council meeting to focus on missile defence.

BRUSSELS (Itar-Tass) - European missile defence and bilateral
military cooperation will top the agenda of the Russia-NATO Council
meeting at the level of defence ministers, a diplomatic source in Brussels
told Itar-Tass.
It also should not be ruled out that the meeting will focus on the
military operation in Libya.
Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov will confirm the position of Russia
that insists on getting from NATO legally binding guarantees that the U.S.
missile defence shield in Europe would not be targeted against it.
"It was planned that at this meeting the results of analysing
opportunities for Russia-NATO missile defence cooperation will be summed
up," Russia's NATO envoy Dmitry Rogozin told Itar-Tass earlier. "It should
be noted that military officials have already developed the whole range of
opportunities for cooperation in this sector, but to translate these
practices into reality the remaining political differences should be
settled."
Last month the consultations on this issue "stalled," he said.
As for other areas of Russia-NATO military cooperation, they develop
very actively. This is proved by the ongoing joint anti-terrorism drills
Vigilant Skies 2011 that are aimed at making passenger flights between
NATO member-states and Russia safer.
