2ND MUSLIM WORLD BIZ EXHIBITION BEGINS JUNE 8
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Visitors will certainly be amazed by the
uniqueness and beauty of decorative items, like carpets, table cloth, purse and
traditional costumes, which are mostly hand made, being displayed at an
exhibition in conjunction with the second conference of the Muslim Biz World -
Business of Investment Zone from June 8 until June 11.
Some of the items may take between four months and a year to make.
A sales representative from the Republic of Uzbekistan, Gulnora, 32, said
her country's national costume, known as "Chapan", is hand-woven from a quality
fabric called "velour".
"It can last up to 15 years and takes four months to make. The dress is
normally worm at official functions, like weddings," she said when met by
Bernama here.
The owner of Aslbek Invest Trade Limited Liability Company (LLC) said her
shop also sells home decorative items, like carpet, table cloth and earthenware.
"This hand-woven carpet, which comes in various colours and designs, takes a
year to complete and is sold for only RM450 (US$1=RM3) a piece.
"The table cloth is also hand-woven and sold for RM50 a piece," she added.
Gulnora said also available at her kiosk are 10 types of dried fruits and
four types of legumes meant for medicinal purpose.
Besides Uzbekistan, other participating countries of the Organisation of
Islamic Conference included the Republic of Yemen.
A sales representative from Yemen, Amira Abdulbari Ali, 36, said she had
brought "Bakhor", a crystal-like stone which gives out an aroma when heated, to
promote at the exhibition.
She said "Bakhor' had also been processed into liquid form and sold in
bottles like other perfume.
Those who are interested in calligraphy , the can visit the kiosk set up by
an Indonesian couple, Sri Winarto, 62, and his wife, Siti Muthmainah, 54.
Sri Winarto, who has been in the field for 30 years, now owns a calligraphy
shop known as 'Bhinneka Karya Art' in South Jakarta.
A total of 137 exhibitors from OIC member countries are involved in the
exhibition, being held at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
