Riga to host Latvia-Russia intergovernmental commission

RIGA, June 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Latvia's Liepaja will host on Thursday the
fifth meeting of the Latvia-Russia intergovernmental commission on
economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and cultural cooperation.
The agenda includes cooperation in transport and transit and issues of
crossing the border, as well as regional cooperation, press service of
Latvia's Ministry of Economy told Itar-Tass.
"This year's priorities for the Latvia-Russia economic cooperation are
ratification of the interstate agreements, which were signed over the past
year's official visit of Latvia's President Valdis Zatlers, and regional
cooperation," Minister of the Economy and co-chair of the commission from
the Latvian side Artis Kampars said.
Russia's Minister of Transport Igor Levitin, the co-chair, and a big
delegation of Russia's ministers, regional governors and businesses will
come to participate in the commission's meeting.
On the first day the sides will discuss improvement of the treaty and
legal base, trade, economic and regional coo9peration and cooperation in
transport and humanitarian spheres. Besides, the sides will discuss
improvement of the Riga-Moscow transport corridor's infrastructures and
future development of transit via the corridor. The discussion will be
followed by a meeting of the Latvia-Russia business council, and then
leaders of the delegations will visit the Liepaja port and the Tosmare
shipbuilding plant. On the same day, Igor Levitin will have a meeting with
his counterpart Uldis Augulis.
On June 10, the commission will continue its work, which will be
finalised by a protocol of the fifth meeting of the Latvia-Russia
intergovernmental commission and a declaration on partnership for
modernisation between the two countries.
