Human Trafficking Prevention Seminar held in Vientiane

(KPL) The Department of Labour Management of Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and International Labour Organization (ILO) held at ICTC yesterday a seminar to exchange lesson and review the implementation of the resolution on Child and Women Trafficking Prevention in Lao PDR.
The function co-chaired by Mr. Duangchai Phichit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense and Ms. Sonam Yangchen, UN Co-ordinator and UNDP resident representative to Laos was attended by more 50 participants.Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Duangchai said that the human trafficking is a bad crime, which is most dangerous for society and human, otherwise all people in the world should work together to prevent the human trafficking.The function was a part of activities to review and close a project to prevent the child and women trafficking supported by ILO since 2001 in five provinces of Khammouane, Savannakhet and Chapassak, Borikhamsay, and Sayaboury which covers 13 Actions Programme and commissioned target provinces to implement activities of Actions Programme.
The aim of the project is to reduce illegal migrants as well as child and Women trafficking in Lao DPR, especially with five target provinces and the project focuses on three main prevention strategies of capacity building for governmental officials involved with project; awareness raising on vulnerable and negative impacts of human trafficking and provision of direct assistance to target villages.
The achievements from project implementing have significant contributed to encourage the implementation of Government strategy to eliminate the poverty, to improve the mechanism on human trafficking prevention.
