M'SIA CAN MANAGE INFLATION, SAYS CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's inflation will be infected
if the country has high commodity prices that would translate into high food
prices, said Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

"It's something that we can manage," she said on the sidelines of the Kijang
Emas Scholarship Award 2011 here Friday, when asked whether Malaysia's inflation
would be similar to that of Singapore.

"People should learn how to economise and be more efficient in their energy
usage, in driving cars, and pooling. All these are things we can do to manage
environment where you have rising fuel and food prices," said the central bank
governor.

According to recent reports, Singapore's inflation rate is expected to reach
4.4 per cent for the second quarter.

On whether the inflation rate would be revised, Zeti said: "Not at the
moment".

Malaysia's inflation rate rose to a 24-month high of 3.2 per cent,
year-on-year, in April after a 3 per cent increase in March.

The three recipients of the Kijang Emas Scholarship Award 2011 are Arman
Shukri Hamidon, Arjunan a/l Selvamani and Tan Heang-Lee.

The Award, for top achievers in the 2010 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (Malaysian
Certificate of Education) gives the recipients freedom to pursue their own field
of study in top notch universities in any country of their choice.

Bank Negara does not impose any bond on the recipients and the only
requirement is for them to return to Malaysia and serve the nation.
