Hu says China, Kazakhstan are important strategic partners
ASTANA, June 10 (Itar-Tass) - China's President Hu Jintao considers
Kazakhstan "a good neighbour and an important strategic partner."
"China and Kazakhstan are good neighbours and important strategic
partners. The two countries are member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization," he said in an interview with the Kazinform news agency
ahead of his visit to the Central Asian Republic that begins on June 12.
"The development of long-term, stable and comprehensive relations of
strategic partnership - this is what our people are interested in, as this
meets real and long-term interests of the countries," he said.
"China assesses with satisfaction the state of bilateral relations and
is filled with confidence that their further development has bright
prospects," Hu Jintao said.
He underlined that the two countries "finally resolved border issues
remaining in history, signed a treaty of good neighbourliness, friendship
and cooperation, drafted a strategy for cooperation in the 21st century,
set up an intergovernmental commission for cooperation at the level of
deputy prime ministers and are strengthening a legal base for
comprehensive promotion of strategic partnership."
The Chinese leader noted that in 2010 the two countries' trade
comprised 20.4 billion U.S. dollars "growing by more than 50 times as
compared to the initial period of establishing diplomatic relations."
"The sides provide decisive mutual support in all issues related to
vital interests of each other and build up fruitful cooperation in the
fight against such evils as drug trafficking and transborder organized
crime," he said.
"We maintain close coordination of positions and interaction with your
country in such multilateral structures as the UN, SCO, the Conference on
Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, etc. thus providing
assistance to ensuring peace, stability and development of the region and
the whole world in general," Hu Jintao said.
During his visit the Chinese president will meet with his Kazakh
counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev and Prime Minister Karim Masimov.
"I am ready together with Kazakhstan's authorities to sum up the
results of development of the Chinese-Kazakh relations looking back at
almost 20 years that had passed and to draft a program for further
development of relations of strategic partnership and set new goals and
new tasks in all directions of practical cooperation," he said.
The Chinese president noted that after his visit "a joint political
document will be published, competent departments and responsible business
people will sign the whole range of important documents of bilateral
cooperation in trade, economic, financial, environment-oriented, transport
and humanitarian sectors."
"There are sufficient reasons to be sure that joint efforts will make
this visit a success giving a fresh impetus to sustainable and
comprehensive development of the Chinese-Kazakh relations," Hu Jintao said.
