P1 JOINS GLOBAL TD-LTE INITIATIVE
KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) -- Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (P1)
became the first 4G WiMAX service provider in Malaysia and Southeast Asia to
join the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) to champion the TD-LTE technology.
The GTI is a virtual open platform to advocate cooperation among global
operators to promote the TD-LTE ecosystem.
In a statement Friday, P1's chief executive officer Michael Lai said even
though WiMAX is still the most matured 4G technology available today, it is good
to prepare for the future and LTE is definitely the answer to the growing demand
for mobile broadband services.
"LTE is the next wave of 4G technology that is potentially capable of
delivering dizzying wireless speeds up to one gigabits per second.
"P1 wants to offer its subscribers the best of both worlds by transitioning
to a dual 4G WiMAX/TD-LTE platform and maximise its RM1 billion nationwide WiMAX
network investment," Lai said.
