Amr Moussa: Talks between Iran, Arabs Serve Both Sides' Interests
TEHRAN (FNA)- Former Secretary-General of the Arab League called for comprehensive talks between Iran and the Arab countries, stressing that these negotiations will serve the interests of both sides.
"Iran and Arabs share common interests on which they should make the necessary coordination," Moussa told FNA on Saturday, stressing his strong call on the Arab countries to reinvigorate their relations with Tehran.
"There is no doubt that Iran is a brotherly, neighboring and important country in the region and I have always called for holding talks with Iran," he added.
Referring to certain differences between Iran and the Arab countries, Moussa reiterated that both sides should hold negotiations to draw their viewpoints closer to each other and settle their differences and problems.
During his presidency over the Arab League, Moussa had urged the Arab world to strengthen their ties with Iran.
Arab countries should always consider Iran as a good neighbor and a brother country, not an enemy, he said in 2008.
"There are, of course, certain differences of opinion between Iran and some Arab countries, despite which we need to maintain dialogue with Iran," he said at the time.
He emphasized, "We are obliged to keep negotiating with Iran as a responsibility, and Iran, too, is mutually responsible to maintain constructive dialogue with us."
Referring to the existing issues between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he reiterated, "There are various ways for tackling the major regional problems, but the current regional conditions dictate the need to negotiate with Iran."
