Official Underscores Islamic Nature of Popular Uprisings in Region

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Farahi stressed the Islamic identity of the recent revolutions and popular uprisings in the region.
"Recent uprisings in the region derive from the regional nations' tendency and desire for Islam," Hossein Farahi told FNA on Saturday, pointing to the Islamic popular movements in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Bahrain and Yemen.
The official further urged for a precise study of the views presented by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei about the current popular uprisings in the region, and stressed that all the different aspects of these revolutions have been well unveiled and explained by the Leader.
Earlier this Month, Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned that the US has initiated efforts to hijack popular uprisings in the region and derail the Islamic awakening in the Middle-East and North Africa.
"The United States does not do anything in the interests of the regional nations. Whatever they have done so far has been against the regional nations," Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing a large crowd of Iranian people at the mausoleum of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, South of Tehran last week.
The Leader urged the Muslim countries to remain vigilant in the face of the Western plots.
The Leader further underlined that Iran throws its weight behind all popular anti-US movements in the region.
In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has been sweeping the Arab world.
In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the 23-year ruling of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
In February, another Arab revolution led to the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak after three decades of his authoritarian rule.
Other revolutions have also erupted in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, while anti-government unrests are gradually spreading in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait and Algeria.
