Orthodox Russia marks the Holy Trinity
SERGIEV POSAD, the Moscow region, June 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's marks
the Holy Trinity on Sunday. Services had started in churches decorated
with birth tree branches the day before on Saturday.
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill held a night service at the
Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra on Saturday evening. As a rule, thousands
of people come to the Lavra for the Trinity.
A famous icon called "The Trinity" written by medieval Russian icon
painter Andrei Rublyov expresses the meaning of the Holy Trinity best of
all. It depicts the coessential God as existing in three persons: the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, a symbol of love. In the centre of
the icon there's a bowl with the Holy Lamb, which implies Christ's
sacrifice made for the sake of all humanity.
On Sunday, June the 12th, the patriarch will lead a liturgy at the
Lavra's Assumption Cathedral.
