French Analyst Urges End to Israel's N. Ambiguity

TEHRAN (FNA)- A prominent French analyst criticized the US support for Israel's nuclear posture, and urged transparency in the Zionist regime's military nuclear program.
Speaking to FNA, Director of the French 'Institut Diplomatie and Defence' Francois Gere pointed to the Israelis' access to nuclear fusion capability, and stated, "The first step is to end Israel's nuclear ambiguity … we need information and transparency."

Gere who is in Tehran for the second international conference on nuclear disarmament said that such transparency would be the first step in putting Israel in an international and legal framework.

Gere further underlined that US President Barack Obama should end support for Israel's nuclear capabilities if he is serous about reduction in nuclear warheads.

"Given the situation in the Middle-East and the US support for Israel, I don't think a nuclear-free Middle-East will be materialized soon," Gere lamented.

Israel is believed to be the sole possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle-East with over 200 ready-to-launch warheads in its stockpile.

Regional countries have always called for the nuclear disarmament of Israel as the only impediment to the materialization of a Middle-East free from atomic weapons.

The second conference dubbed 'A Review of Existing Challenges in Nuclear Disarmament and Dismantlement of other WMDs' started work at the Foreign Ministry's Political and International Studies Office here in Tehran on Sunday.

The two-day conference has brought together officials and representatives of over 40 countries from across the world as well as ambassadors and representatives from international bodies such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The event comprises three specialized panels which will discuss the doctrines of nuclear powers, take practical measures to have a world free from weapons of mass destruction and review regional as well as international disarmament commitments.
