MALAYSIAN BUSINESSES SHOULD EYE POTENTIAL IN AFRICA - MATRADE
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The expansion of the African consumer market will continue to drive increased demand and translate into huge potential for Malaysian businesses, said Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Kamarudin Hassan.
"Given the emergence of the African continent as a significant market place in the last decade, we're convinced of the many opportunities available for the growth of Malaysia's total trade with Africa," he said.
Matrade is organising the inaugural Malaysia-Africa Business Forum (MABF) on June 18 in conjunction with the Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) 2011 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
The event is expected to attract over 500 delegates from local and
international business communities, the trade promotion agency said in a statement Tuesday.
To date, the forum has registered delegates from Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Gambia, South Africa, Namibia, Singapore, Bangladesh and Bahrain.
Themed, "Exploring New Dimensions" the MABF aims to strengthen current Malaysia-Africa trade by expanding the reach and value of traditional markets, enhance business cooperation via the identification of changes in market sentiment and matching it to the right products or services.
The forum also eyed the creation of sustainable economic prosperity by synergising more Malaysia-Africa business partnerships, said Matrade.
The half-day event will feature prominent international speakers
representing, among others, the World Bank, Matrade, Quality Chemical Industries Ltd of Uganda and Ethiopia's Precise Consult International PLC.
It will cover a variety of topics with an integrated viewpoint of the subject, from the advantages of doing business in Africa to the numerous opportunities available, there.
To be opened by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the business forum will feature a keynote address by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
