VP Calls for Better Services for Pilgrims in Iran, Iraq

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi underlined the necessity for new agreements between Tehran and Baghdad for providing better services for Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims.
Many Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims visit the holy sites of the other country every year and new plans must be prepared and new agreements must be made to provide them with better services, Rahimi stated.
The issue was raised during a meeting with Iraqi Minister of State for Tourism and Archeology Liwa al-Sumaysim here in Tehran on Monday.
He also said that Tehran and Baghdad enjoy good and brotherly relations, adding that the Islamic Republic is keen to share its expertise in various areas with Iraq.
More that 1,500 pilgrims come from the neighboring Iran each day to visit Shiite shrines in Iraq, mainly in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.
But, the number of Iranian pilgrims visiting Iraq's holy cities, specially Karbala, rises to millions on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (AS) each year.
