Russia's Pacific Fleet ships return to Vladivostok after exercise
VLADIVOSTOK, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - A detachment of ships of Russia's
Pacific Fleet, which is one of the five major territorial branches of the
Russian Navy, has returned to Vladivostok after a long-distance exercise
cruise to Singapore, Indonesia and China.
The detachment consisted of the big antisubmarine ship The Admiral
Panteleyev and the rescue towboats Yuri Krylatov. Their cruise lasted
about a month and a half, in the course of which the ships called into the
naval bases of Singapore, Indonesia and China.
Sources at the Pacific Fleet's information group told Itar-Tass the
detachment left Vladivostok May 3 and set sail to Singapore where the two
Russian ships took part in the international fair of armaments and
technologies IMDEX'2011.
Upon its completion, the detachment moved towards the shores of
Indonesia where it called into the port of Makasar. Apart from
participation in the cultural and sports programs, the Russian sailors had
a scheduled joint naval exercise with Indonesian counterparts.
The two countries' naval crews simulated the maintenance of
communications, maneuvering and rescue on high seas. The commanding
officers also discussed the problem of protecting commercial ships against
the operations of pirates.
The next port the Russian ships called into was Shanghai where they
stayed for two days in a bid to replenish the reserves of food and fuel.
The Russian seamen were taken around the city to get to know the
sights of China's biggest megalopolis. In addition, they had a number of
friendly meetings with Chinese counterpart.
