Egyptian Presidential Hopeful: People Demanding Severance of Ties with Israel

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Egyptian politician and potential candidate for the upcoming presidential election stated that severance of Cairo's ties with Tel Aviv is a public demand in Egypt.
Speaking to FNA in Cairo on Tuesday, Member of Ikhwan al-Muslimun (Muslim Brotherhood) Party's Shura Council Abdul Moneim Abu el-Fatouh said that all Egyptian people want a cut of ties with the Zionist regime of Israel.
"After January 15 Revolution (in Egypt) all sides realized that the 85-million-strong nation of Egypt does not want to have any ties with Israel unless Israel agrees with comprehensive peace and security in the region," he stated.
"And that is not just the view of Islamists," he added.
El-Fotouh said that he believes a solution to Arab-Israeli conflicts lies in the establishment of a free and democratic government in Egypt.
No date has yet been set for the presidential election in Egypt, but it is expected to take place by the end of the year.
The presidential candidates all agreed that they would revisit a 1979 peace treaty with Israel.
They said that the peace treaty's terms with Israel would have to be revisited to allow Egypt more troops in the Sinai Peninsula.
