Joint effort of SCO, CSTO to improve fighting terrorism in C Asia
ASTANA, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - Joint effort of the Regional
anti-terrorist structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the
Collective Security Treaty Organisation will improve effectiveness of the
two structures in opposing extremism and terrorism in Central Asia, the
CSTO's Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said on Tuesday.
"For the CSTO fighting terrorism and extremism in the Central Asian
region is a key challenge," Bordyuzha said at the ceremony of signing a
protocol on cooperation between the two organisations. "The signed
document will let us coordinate more effectively our efforts in
counteracting extremism."
"We see how complicated this problem is, and practically all
member-states both in the SCO and the CSTO have experienced for themselves
what terrorist attacks are, and what human victims in terrorism are," he
said. "This is why an option to cooperate according to a plan, a legal
base for this activity mean raising effectiveness in all our joint
efforts."
Lately, the CSTO "has gained the necessary force potential for
counteracting terrorist attacks," which makes it possible to have joint
actions to raise effectiveness of the necessary fighting," he said.
