FINA commission to inspect Kazan's readiness to host water sports events.
KAZAN, June 15 (Itar-Tass) -- President of Russia's republic of
Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov on Wednesday will meet here with visiting
President of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Julio Maglione.
They will discuss Kazan's bid for hosting world water sports championships
in 2015 and 2017.
The commission that arrived in Russia to assess its readiness for such
international events includes FINA Executive General Cornel Marculescu,
FINA bureau member Gennady Aleshin, head of department Peter Hall, and
Akino Fuchi, a representative from the Dentsu advertising and
communications holding, a FINA partner.
On June 14 and 16, the commission will inspect Kazan's infrastructure,
sports facilities of the Univesriade-2013. The commission will visit the
Olimp and Burevestnik swimming pools, and the Palace of Water Sports, the
Rowing Centre and a football stadium seating 45,000 that are currently
under construction. If Kazan wins the bid, a 50-meter swimming pool and a
swimming pool for drills will be built.
Kazan's rivals are Mexican Guadalajara, China's Guangzhou and Hong
Kong, and Canada's Montreal, which is seeking to host only the 2017
championship.
FINA will decide who will host the 2015 and 2017 water sports world
championships on July 15, at a bureau meeting that will be held in the
sidelines of the 14th world championship in China's Shanghai.
