Mountain climbers who survived snow slide on Kamchatka taken to hospital.
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, June 15 (Itar-Tass) -- Mountain climbers who
were caught in snow slide on Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka peninsula have
been taken to a hospital in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a spokesman for the
territorial administration of the Russian Emergencies Ministry told
Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
According to earlier reports, four persons were caught by a snow
avalanche that slid down the Ganalskiye Vostryaki mount slope some 100
kilometers off Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky late on June 14. One of these
four, rescuer Alexander Baichurin was killed. Three more, mountain
climbers received injuries of moderate gravity.
A Mi-8 helicopter of the Kamchatka Airlines was sent to take the three
men and the dead body.
Since June 11, the Kamchatka mountaineering federation has been
holding training exercises in the area. The drill are to be over on June
22.
