GREAT INTEREST IN SENAI HI-TECH PARK FROM RENEWABLE-ENERGY FIRMS

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Senai Hi-Tech Park, the second
high-technology industrial park in Malaysia, sees greater interest from
renewable energy firms due to Malaysia's effort to promote its use.

"Interest is coming in a great way from renewable energy firms in the park amid the infrastructure, location as well as the government's support," said Senai High Tech Park Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer, Ahmad Shukri Tajuddin.

He said the company was now putting the infrastructure in place and it expected a few firms to come in, either this year or early next year.

"They are foreign players. China and India are among the countries that are aggressively venturing into the technology-related business," he said, declining to elaborate.

He was speaking to reporters after the exchange of memorandum of
understanding between Senai Hi-Tech and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation for the development of a RM200 million NanoMalaysia Centre here Wednesday. (US$1=Rm3.04)

The park, located within Iskandar Malaysia, has attracted about RM3 billion
worth of investments since 2010, drawing interests from various sectors
including semiconductor, solar, advanced materials industry and nanotechnology.

The park is operated by Senai High Tech.

Ahmad Shukri said the park would also bank on Johor's close proximity to Singapore which made it an attractive place for investments in renewable energy and green technology.

"The park also bodes well for Malaysia's aims to attract high value-added investment that will bring in knowledge workers in order to meet its aspiration to become a high-income economy," he said.

He said the park could draw in more upstream and downstream activities, especially in nano technology with the establishment of the NanoMalaysia Centre.
