CHINESE TOP GLOBAL SPENDING IN 2010
Outbound Chinese tourists topped the global list of big spenders last year, according to the first Chinese Luxury Traveller White Paper released Tuesday.
They captured 17 per cent of the global shopping market, a 91 per cent increase from the previous year, said the paper released by the Hurun Report, in association with the International Luxury Travel Market Asia.
It was the first time that China ranked at the top of the consumer index, followed by Russia (16 per cent), Japan and the United States (five per cent each) and Indonesia (four per cent).
Watches and jewellery were at the top of the list of favorite products purchased by the Chinese, followed by garments and fashion accessories.
The report said the fast-growing rich group, demand for luxury goods, rise in Renminbi and more convenient visa application process were main factors contributing to the rapid development of the Chinese luxury traveller.
