Russian envoy to go to Tripoli for peace talks

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Federation Council Committee on
International Relations Chairman and presidential special envoy for Libya
Mikhail Margelov has left for Tripoli for talks with Libyan leaders.
He is scheduled to meet with the prime minister and foreign minister,
but "is prepared for any meetings and unexpected situations".
The visit is taking place "on instruction from the Russian president
and is one of the measures being taken by the leadership of the country
and its Foreign Ministry in order settle the situation in Libya", Margelov
said.
He recalled that "Moscow insists on ceasefire in Jamahiriya and a
transition to political methods of settlement".
At the same time, he admitted, "The situation in Libya remains acute,
and there has been little progress in starting a dialogue between the
warring factions".
So, Margelov expects "difficult talks in Tripoli" but hopes that "they
will clarify whether there are any, at least minimal, resources for a
peaceable settlement".
According to Margelov, the parties to the conflict "should start
talking about national reconciliation".
