LARGE TURNOUT EXPECTED AT KUALA LUMPUR ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - BlueScope Steel, Malaysia's leading steel group company, expects the 25-day Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival 2011, to be held in several locations in July, to be equally impressive as in previous years.
BlueScope President for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Somkiat Pintatham said the conference has grown in repute, over the years, with the number of local and international participants comprising students, private sector representatives and government officers growing steadily.
"Last year's conference attracted 2,500 participants, an increase of 10 per cent from the previous year", he told reporters at a briefing here Thursday.
BlueScope signed a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), which is organising the conference, to continuously support the institute in promoting architectural excellence.
Under the MoU, BlueScope would provide and share foreign expertise on latest architectural development on building innovation and trends, design or materials with practicing architects and students.
"If necessary, we will also provide monetary assistance," said Somkiat, adding that BlueScope has remained the main sponsor for PAM's International Architectural Design Conference since it was first introduced in 2003.
"Even back then, we saw an opportunity to join hands with a progressive association such as PAM to support and promote architectural excellence in Malaysia," he said.
To date, BlueScope has been actively involved with PAM in their continous professional development seminars and architecture exhibitions.
