MALAYSIA-AFRICA BUSINESS FORUM TO PRECEDE LID 2011

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - A Malaysia-Africa Business Forum
will be held on Saturday, on the eve of the Langkawi International Dialogue 2011, aimed at spurring more business and trade ties between Malaysia and the African continent.

To be opened by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the forum will focus on the importance and value of enhancing economic and business relations between Malaysia and Africa, given the diverse socio economic landscape of both regions.

Organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the forum on June 18, themed "Exploring New Dimensions" will feature prominent international speakers, from established organisations, who will presenting a range of topics at the forum.

Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will deliver a keynote address at the half-day forum to be held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

The forum is open to all Malaysian and African business communities, ministries and agencies, foreign embassies, along with chambers of commerce and trade associations.

In 2010, Malaysia's trade with Africa increased more than six-fold to RM25 billion, from RM4.38 billion, recorded in 2001, with Egypt, South Africa, Benin, Togo, Djibouti, Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritius and Tanzania making the list as Malaysia's top trading partners. (US$1=RM3.04)
