FLORIA PUTRAJAYA 2011 IS BACK ON JULY 9-17
PUTRAJAYA (Bernama) - The Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival 2011 (Floria Putrajaya 2011) is back and will be held on July 9-17 this year with "Roses Are Forever" as its theme.
A total of 12,000 roses of various types will be showcased at the festival, together with over 400,000 flowers, herbal plants, wild trees and ornamental landscape plants.
Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said 200 activities had also been lined-up for the festival, which was expected to attract over 800,000 local and foreign visitors.
"Garden creations by 13 designers, flower arrangements from Indonesia, United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Macao, Kenya, Pakistan, Canada, New Zealand and Hong Kong, as well as exhibitions, gardening workshops and landscape competition for students will also be held during the festival," he told a press conference here Thursday.
He said this year's festival would also see the participation of Tourism Ministry in organising the 1Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade, where decorative boats and fresh flowers would be set sail along the Putrajaya Lake every night throughout the nine-day festival.
Raja Nong Chik said the organising of Floria Putrajaya last year had collected almost RM1.64 million (US$538,322) and the collection was expected to be higher this year as the festival would also involve major players of flower, horticulture and landscape industries, both locally and abroad.
The festival is open to the public from 9am to 10am on Monday to Thursday and from 9am to midnight on Friday to Sunday. Admission is free.
