National mourning for Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh
(KPL) Following the death of Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh on 9 September, the Political Bureau of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee has agreed upon forming a 26-member committee for the funeral of this able and wise politician.
His funeral will be held in Vientiane Capital on 14 September.
The Committee has Mr. Choummaly Sayasone, Secretary-General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos as chairman, and Mr. Thongsing Thammavong, LPRP CC Politburo member and President of the National Assembly as vice-chairman, Mr. Bounnhang Vorachit, LPRP CC Politburo member and Vice-President of the Lao PDR as vice–chairman.
The committee for the funeral has issued instructions on the mourning for Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh as follows:
The nation is to observe a five–day mourning period from 10 – 14 September, 2008. During the period, there will be no functions, balls, and entertainment of any form. All the Party-state offices, and those of mass organisations at all levels, embassies, consulates, the representations of the Lao PDR abroad shall fly flags at half-mast.
In Vientiane, the public shall lay wreaths to pay the last tributes to Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh for four days on September 10, 11, 12 and 13 from 8:00 – 12:00 a.m and from 2:00-5:00 p.m
The State institutions at central level and of the Vientiane Capital, education establishments, organisations, production and business units and the general public, members and friends of the bereaved family may pay their homage to this former President during the above-mentioned schedule.
