China seeks Russia WTO entry in 2011 - statement
MOSCOW, June 16 (Itar-Tass) - A joint statement passed by the Russian
and Chinese presidents on Thursday, said that China is in favour of Russia'
s entry into the World Trade Organisation before the end of this year.
This was said in the joint statement approved by the two leaders in
connection with the tenth anniversary of the Good-Neighborly Treaty of
Friendship and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People's
Republic of China.
The document also noted that China "welcomes Russia's initiative to
host a G20 summit in 2013". Touching upon cooperation of Russia, China and
India, it said the leaders "confirm their readiness to deepen this
cooperation, including within the framework of multi-lateral unions in the
Asian-Pacific region".
It also mentioned problems of the spread of weapons of mass
destruction and delivery vehicles. These problems "must be settled
politically and diplomatically in the interests of strengthening
international security". "The sides draw attention to the need to ensure
the safety of space, prevent conflict situations of any kind and guarantee
freedom of access to space," it stressed.
"The Russian initiative on a European Security Treaty has given an
impetus to the development of constructive discussions on ways to build a
system of region-wide collective security on a most wide range," it
stressed.
"The Chinese side confirms support for Russia's efforts to protect its
basic interests and contribute to regional peace and stability in
Transcaucasia and in the CIS," the leaders stressed in their joint
statement.
The document also mentioned the situation in Kyrgyzstan. "The sides
note the importance of efforts of the Kyrgyz leadership, aimed at
overcoming difficulties facing the country. They are ready to keep
offering necessary assistance and support for the people of Kyrgyzstan,"
it said.
The Russian and Chinese presidents, Dmitry Medvedev and Hu Jintao,
have also agreed to increase bilateral trade between the two countries to
100 billion dollars by 2015 and to 200 billion dollars by the year 2020.
The document notes that Medvedev and Hu Jintao "agreed to create
necessary conditions in the trade sphere for increasing the amount of
bilateral trade to 100 billion dollars by 2015 and to 200 billion dollars
by 2020".
The declaration also notes that they agreed to "update the mechanism
of organizing and holding Russian-Chinese investment forums, actively
implement the investment cooperation plan and steadily increase the
amounts of mutual investments".
