Korean War commemoration event set for next week in Virginia

A regional veterans group said Thursday that it will hold a two-day ceremony next week in the U.S. state of Virginia, near Washington, to mark the 61st anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War.
The event, set to kick off on Friday, will start with a performance by an Air Force band. Afterward, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech, according to the Korean American Association of Virginia.
Rangel was an artillery operations specialist in a U.S. Army battalion during the Korean War that began on June 25, 1950 and ended on July 27, 1953 with an armistice.
Other scheduled events include a demonstration of taekwondo, a traditional Korean martial art, and other cultural performances, the association added.
On Saturday, veterans and their families plan to make a group visit to the Korean War Memorial in Washington for a wreath laying, it said.
