DOMESTIC CAR MAKERS MUST BECOME GLOBALLY-ORIENTED COMPANIES, SAYS DPM
Domestic car makers must be more
competitive and shift their focus from being merely domestic champions to become globally-oriented entities, says Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Citing Perodua as an example, he said with the help of its stakeholder and technology partner, Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan, the second national car maker will be able to make grater inroads into regional and global markets.
He was speaking at the launch of the new Perodua Myvi here tonight.
The Perodua's new model is based on the Myvi, the country's top-selling model over the last five years.
The new model has innovations in design and engineering.
To date, Perodua has sold more than 1.8 million cars in the domestic market. It exports completely-built-up (CBU) cars to seven countries while engine components are exported to three countries.
"It is my hope that Perodua will be able to replicate its domestic
success abroad and grow to become a recognisable global brand," he said.
Hardwork, perseverance and dedication to maintain product quality and superior service standards will make Perodua as an innovative company and win the admiration of Malaysians, he added.
