NAMIBIA EAGER TO SHARE EXPERIENCE IN PORT DEVELOPMENT AT LID 2011

By Mohd Khairi Idham

SEPANG (Malaysia), June 17 (Bernama) -- Namibia is eager to share its experience in the development of infrastructure facilities besides linking upwith neighbouring African countries and Malaysia at the Langkawi International Dialogue 2011 beginning Sunday.

Its Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku said he has been mandated to speak on certain issues and share expertise in port construction with neighbouring countries.

Namibia would also share the progress it had achieved thus far in
realising its Vision 2030 to be a developed nation by that timeframe, he told Bernama upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here Friday for the LID2011.

At the same time, the country would share its weaknesses, including its low purchasing power and possibly look for solutions from other countries through smart partnerships, he said.

Located in the South African region, Namibia, which has a population of 2.17 million, is rich with diamonds and natural resources including gold and uranium.

Last year, the country's economy grew by 4.3 per cent, backed by rapid recovery in diamond and uranium mining, and this year, the country's economy is expected to grow by 4.8 per cent due to sustained improvement in global demand for mineral products.
