Turkish PhD student wins top prize in intelligent ground vehicles competition
WASHINGTON (A.A) - June 17, 2011 - A U.S.-based Turkish doctorate student has won the top prize and a special award in an intelligent ground vehicle competition held by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Mehmet Kemal Korkmaz, who works on artificial intelligence, and his team won the competition with their robot, "The Warthog," to leave 57 rival robots from six countries including Japan.
"Within 10-15 years of time we will see robot soldiers and unmanned ground vehicles in the armies," said Korkmaz, who was also congratulated by Turkish President Abdullah Gul on his competition success, receiving interest from Pentagon officials.
Korkmaz, who is doing his PhD at the Delaware University, won the competition also in 2009 and came third last year.
