Medvedev to speak at closing session of economic forum Sat.

ST. PETERSBURG, June 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev on Saturday will speak at the closing session of the St.
Petersburg International Economic Forum, and on its sidelines he will meet
with the leaders of Finland and Spain.
Medvedev will spend Saturday morning in the company of members of the
international advisory board for the creation and development of an
international financial center in Russia. Then the president will hold
talks with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. The
leaders invited to the meeting representatives of Russian and Spanish
businesses participating in the forum.
"This year's honorary guest-country of the St. Petersburg
International Economic Forum is to Spain," Medvedev's aide Sergei
Prikhodko recalled. The Spanish delegation to the 2011 SPIEF is led by
Zapatero.
According to Medvedev's aide "this visit - in the course of the
exchange of cross years of Russia and Spain - is designed to give a
significant impetus to the development of trade and economic, investment
and innovation cooperation between our countries."
"A backlog for this work was made in December 2010, when under the
Partnership for Modernization program there was signed a bilateral joint
statement on cooperation. Also, a large business delegation came here to
St. Petersburg for the opening of the cross years with the King Juan
Carlos I," he added.
"Many representatives of Spanish businesses were in St. Petersburg in
February last year and now they are here again to deepen ties with Russian
partners and reach new mutually beneficial agreements," said Prikhodko.
"It is planned that during a conversation at the highest level
prospects will be discussed for the further deepening of Russian-Spanish
relations, as well as a wide range of international issues," he said.
Also on Saturday, Medvedev will hold talks with Finnish President
Tarja Halonen.
"As part of the summit talks there will be an exchange of views on
topical international issues, in particular ways of strengthening the
dialogue between Russia and the EU and NATO, at the United Nations and
within regional structures in the North of Europe," said Prikhodko.
The agenda of the leaders includes "bilateral relations in key areas
of trade and economic interaction, such as shipbuilding, energy and forest
industry." According to the presidential staff, "in 2010 the trade
turnover amounted to 16.75 billion dollars, going up by 27.7 percent from
that in 2009."
"Implementation is in progress of large-scale Russian-Finnish
projects. In November last year there was signed a memorandum between the
Fund Skolkovo and the concern Nokia and in December a high-speed passenger
rail service opened between St. Petersburg and Helsinki," Prikhodko
recalled.
Medvedev and Halonen will speak at the closing plenary meeting of the
15th International Economic Forum.
