LID:CAMEROON EAGER TO EMULATE TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMMES
By P. Santhia

SEPANG, June 18 (Bernama) -- Cameroon hopes to emulate Malaysia and other
African countries which have successfully transformed into industrial economies
from being agriculture-based and hopes to gain as much insight as possible on
this from the Ninth Langkawi International Dialogue 2011 (LID2011).

"Cameroon, this year, formulated a radical transformation plan for the
country by 2035 and we are looking forward to fine tune our vision.

"We are in transition from a primary commodities based nation dwelling in
petroleum, minerals and agriculture to that of an industrial nation," said
Minister Delegate in Charge of Relations with the Commonwealth Dr Joseph Dion
Ngute.

Speaking to Bernama upon his arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International
Airport (KLIA), Sepang, to attend the three-day LID in Putrajaya, he said the
Business Forum Saturday, a new feature amid rising importance for smart
partnerships, was most welcomed as it would serve as a great platform to
exchange information and create opportunities for the business communities.

He also said Cameroon was looking forward to meet delegates and
participants
that could assist the country in creating changes in line with its
transformation programme.

"Our country has lots of potential (to tap) including in the mining sector,"
Ngute said when asked which sector Cameroon was looking to gain experience from
other nations.

Earlier, Vice-President of the Republic of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi arrived at about 9.40pm at KLIA, also to attend the LID 2011, while President
Robert Mugabe of the Republic of Zimbabwe is scheduled to arrive Saturday at
10.45am.
