Iran dismisses PGCC statement as invalid
TEHRAN, June 18 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast has dismissed the most recent PGCC statement as “baseless” and “invalid.”
The PGCC foreign ministers, after a meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday, issued a statement renewing their claim that Iran is meddling in the internal affairs of the Persian Gulf states “through conspiring against their national security, sowing seeds of sectarian discords among these states’ citizens” and urging Iran to “stop its hostile media campaigns and rhetoric against the (P)GCC.”
Mehmanparast said the Persian Gulf states’ move is “an attempt to divert the international community’s attention from certain regional countries’ controversial and interventionist military actions against the regional nations who are campaigning for their legitimate demands and rights.”
The spokesman was indirectly referring to Saudi Arabia’s military intervention in Bahrain where people have risen up against despotisms by the Al-Khalifa dynasty.
The Iranian diplomat also highlighted the need for the maintenance of the regional security and described “the destructive role of certain regional countries’ media outlets in creating division and promoting the atmosphere of hostility as irresponsible.”
He added, “Such measures will not help the establishment of stability and security in the region and will only create a diversion from the main danger and threat, namely the Zionist regime.”
