Official: US Seeking to Change Direction of Regional Revolutions

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian official warned that Washington has hatched plots to undermine the popular uprisings in the region and push them towards internal conflicts.
Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) World Service Mohammad Sarafraz stated that the Washington is trying to portray itself as a supporter of popular uprisings in the region but indeed it is seeking to stop the revolutions.

He added that the US, however, is trying to help elements of dictatorial regimes regain power.

"The US is trying to change the path of the revolutions toward internal conflicts and prevent the revolutionaries from emerging victorious," Sarafraz said, referring to the developments in Libya and Yemen.

In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has been sweeping the Arab world.

In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the 23-year ruling of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

In February, another Arab revolution led to the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak after three decades of his authoritarian rule.

Other revolutions later erupted in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, while other anti-government unrests are growing in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait and somehow Algeria.
