LID HAS EVOLVED INTO DYNAMIC DIALOGUE GROUP - MALAYSIAN PM NAJIB

By Mohd Iswandi Kasan Anuar

PUTRAJAYA, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi International Dialogue (LID)
has never been static and is always evolving in reaching its full potential as a
dynamic dialogue group, said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

He said that since its inception, LID had become an important avenue for
vibrant exchanges of ideas and information among developing countries.

"Fifteen years ago, Malaysia initiated the first LID as a platform for
developing countries to come together in the spirit of cohesiveness to create
synergy for a better future.

"These countries under the banner of the LID have managed to
institutionalise the essence of smart partnership between the government and
private sector," he said in his message contained in the souvenir programme book
for the three-day LID 2011 taking place at the Putrajaya International
Convention Centre (PICC) from Sunday.

Najib, who is LID 2011 host patron and advisor, said that in keeping with
LID's dynamism, a new modality would be introduced for this year's forum themed
"Enhancing Smart Partnership for Socio-Economic Transformation".

Apart from the customary discourses, there will be a new introduction of
retreat and plenary sessions, where the heads of state and government will be
discussing LID's past achievements and the way forward for the dialogue.

There will be a briefing session for the leaders and other dialogue members
on the four pillars that will spearhead Malaysia into becoming a developed
country by 2020.

They are 1Malaysia: People First, Performance Now; Government Transformation
Programme; Economic Transformation Programme and the New Economic Model.

Putrajaya, Malaysia's federal administrative capital, is hosting the forum
for the first time.
