Iran Renews Support for Establishment of Security in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran attaches much importance to sustainable security in Afghanistan, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi told reporters upon arrival at Kabul airport on Saturday.
Vahidi, heading a high-ranking defense delegation, arrived in Kabul on Saturday to explore ways for the further expansion of ties between the two neighboring states.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers security in Afghanistan as its own security. It has tried and will try for the country's sustainable security and is ready to provide any necessary cooperation in this regard," Vahidi noted, adding that the two nations' common culture, history and language necessitate expansion of their ties further than the current level.
"The Islamic Republic Iran considers development and security as the two main constituents of its strategic policy on Afghanistan and will do its best for the establishment of durable peace and stability in the country," the Iranian minister stated.
He further noted that the two countries can confront common threats, including terrorism and narcotics and any insecurity in the region, through coordination and cooperation.
Vahidi's visit came upon an official invitation of his Afghan counterpart Abdulrahim Vardak.
It is the first ever visit of an Iranian defense minister to Afghanistan after the victory of Islamic revolution in Iran.
Also it is also the first ever visit of an Iranian defense minister to Afghanistan since 92 years ago.
Iran and Afghanistan enjoy expanding ties and cooperation and observers believe that the good achievements gained in area of their mutual cooperation should be deemed as a result of the efforts made by the two countries' top officials.
