Senior MP Blasts US, Britain, Saudi Arabia's Meddling in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator lashed out at the US, Britain and Saudi Arabia for their interfering policies in Syria, and said the trio seeks to topple Bashar Assad's government.
"Britain and the US -- aided by Saudi Arabia -- are making efforts to topple the incumbent regime in Syria," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Zohreh Elahian said on Saturday.
"By creating insecurity in Syria, the US seeks to find a replacement for its lost agents [in countries] such as Egypt that can protect American interests," she added.
The Iranian lawmaker also slammed recent remarks by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who accused Iran of meddling in Syria.
"The US, UK are making effort to overthrow the government in Syria with the help of Saudi Arabia," she said.
She went on to say that the United States, Britain and Israel are spending a huge amount of money on their plans to meddle in Syrian affairs.
Since the beginning of the unrests in Syria in mid-March, hundreds of people, including security forces, have been killed.
The opposition accuses security forces of being behind the killings. But the Syrian government blames armed gangs for the violence, saying that the unrest is being orchestrated from outside the country.
