S. Korean Park misses 200 individual medley final in int'l meet

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan missed out on the finals of the men's 200-meter individual medley at a California meet Sunday.
At the Santa Clara International Grand Prix, Park finished his preliminary run at 2 minutes and 8.18 seconds. He ranked 26th and failed to qualify for the finals for nine.
Park had already won the men's 100節?, 200節? and 400節? freestyle races. The individual medley isn't usually among Park's races but he said he just wanted to have fun ahead of the world championships in Shanghai, China, next month.
This was Park's first competition since the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, last November. He won seven medals, including three golds, at the time.
Park is scheduled to return to Brisbane, Australia, on Tuesday, to resume training for the world championships with his Australian coach Michael Bohl. He plans to travel to Shanghai on July 17.
The world championships start on July 16 with diving, and the swimming portion kicks off on July 24. Park won the 400節? freestyle at the 2007 world championships.
